I photographed this isolated island in the Chain O' Lakes in Johnsburg a while ago.
It made me long for the days of my youth spending time at our remote cabin in New Boston, IL. It was a one bedroom fishing house with no phone and lots of bugs.
My grandparents tore down the cabin and put up their retirement home in my teenage years. I have many memories of singing Don McLean's American Pie and pencil markings of my growth from my time at that magical place.
I brings me to tears thinking about how I have not been back to that place since my grandmother died in her sleep at that home on New Year's Eve in 2009. These places are so special.
